Students from Kennedy High School have journeyed twice to SUNY-ESF (State University of New York -School for Environmental Sciences and Forestry) in Syracuse. ESF played host to us for almost a week in June. Admissions officer Eva Williams, and professors Charles and Myrna Hall have been instrumental in trying to build a strong connection between our two schools, and have made many visits to Kennedy High School in the last few years.
On a typical trip, we get the chance to experience classic dorm life, meet with professors, and learn more about the programs in Environmental Sciences available at ESF. On both trips, we spent a few hours at the ESF Adirondack research facility at Newcomb, then visit the headwaters of the Hudson River. We had the opportunity to wade into the river itself, and study the purity of the water by looking for mayflies and other cute little critters under the rocks. The Environmental program at Kennedy and ESF have kept in close contact in recent years, and every year, a couple students choose to make ESF their college of choice!
