Volunteering in our local parks

The Environmental Club has done much work in our local parks, whether it involves picking up garbage, pruning trees, weeding, pulling vines, or planting flowers. Here are a few photos of some of our contributions.

We have worked with the Friends of Van Cortlandt Park to help them remove invasive vines, such as bittersweet. Here, we are working near Van Cortlandt Lake.

Annual Beach Clean Up day at Spuyten Duyvil Shorefront Park, sponsored by the Friends of Spuyten Duyvil and the American Littoral Society. We not only picked up debris along the shores of Spuyten Duyvil, but had to catalogue every piece of garbage as well for analysis purposes!

Ewen Park service day in 1999

We planted about 2,000 daffodil bulbs in Ewen Park in November of 2001. They were donated by the Netherlands after the attack on the Twin Towers.
