Construction of our flag totem pole

One of our first winter projects was the painting of a totem pole to be installed at the highest point of the garden. Each student involved in this project painted the flag of their home country on this totem pole. To the left, Elizabeth Kim , who finished quickly with the Korean flag, is helping Alex Cabral with the more demanding Dominican flag.

Unfortunately, the totem pole only lasted about two years. Even though we put on lots of shelack, the elements finally got to the paint job, and the pole became a weathered eye sore, and had to be taken down.
