Fence Building

John Nieves, James McCaskill, and Engels Valenzuela are putting in the corner post in the back of the garden. Thanks to materials donated by Green Thumb, we had all that we needed to properly enclose the garden.Building the fence took weeks, as we had to pick axe through the asphalt of the parking lot, and hit numerous large rocks in the process. One two foot deep hole could take a whole day! We also had to mix one or two bags of cement per hole. Once the posts were up, we strung up turkey wire between the posts. (One lesson learned by John, James, and Engels here: always wear gloves when dealing with wet cement!)

Mr. Thoman, John, and Abraham

In all, we put up about 40 fence posts... that's 40 holes of two feet depth, and 90 bags of cement!

We also put up 2 x 4s to connect the posts.

Last, we used staple nails to put up our turkey wire fence.

This whole project took a good month, working 9- 5 on weekends.
