Summer of 2002

It was an unusually quiet summer in the garden. There were just four of us regularly taking care of the garden: Mahammood Elahi, Fahaam Razack, Abdus Salaam, and Mr. Thoman. We made a few cosmetic changes to the garden, fixed up the remaining areas impacted by vandalism, and most important, got this web site on a roll.

We took out one of our flowerbeds, and placed woodchips in its place. We felt that we needed to open up this area more, as it gets heavy traffic. We also were never able to figure out what to do with that particular flower bed.

We extended this bed. As most of the plants growing in this bed: fennel, hyssop, and rudebekia, needed more space, we pushed our stone border out about two feet.

Fahaam became our rose expert, and worked on a web page that highlighted our rose garden.

Abdus focused on our farm for his web page. We all had a daunting task keeping the garden alive with one of the worst droughts in NYC history. We could no longer get water from our friendly hydrant, and all we could get was a trickle from school sources.
