The Farmstand goes indoors |
We had an excellent harvest to show off this year. While our summer was one of the hottest and driest on record, we managed to keep our veggies in good health through the seemingly endless weeks of heat. With a meager water supply, we hand watered the veggies in our raised beds. Also, we used black weed fabric to keep the weeds out and lock in the moisture. Generally, our vegetables did well in such cirmustances, especially our tomaotes and peaches. Unfortunately, the day we were to set up our stand, we happened to face tropical storm Isidore, and were outdone by the element that hid away from us all summer: rain. We set up a table in the teacher's cafeteria, and did a bustling business. We made about $250, and again, were able to show off some superb produce that would make any farmer proud. Crystal Mac made some pesto with basil from our garden, and we were able to dispaly some of the largest zucchinis ever to grow on this planet. |
