Spring Arrives to the Enchanted Garden! |
Spring came late this year. We received
our last snow in early April, and we had to keep postponing workdays through
March due to cold and wet weather. April 5, staff from Wave
Hill, and various volunteers from the community came to the garden
to bring about one significant change: getting rid of the bush border
between Orchard Hill and the Farm. We worked hard, and tried to finish
things off before the threatening black clouds opened up on us. Sure enough,
the next day, we received a half foot of snow.About 30 people showed up,
and we completed what we set out to do. Below are some photos from that
day, and other work days as well. |

note the brick border on the right ... we removed the bricks and the vegetation that separated the Farm from Orchard Hill |
We placed logs in place of the bricks, creating a more natural look. We also removed the last raised bed, and brought the right border out, creating a nice bend to that area. We planted grass seed where there used to be rose and buddelia bushes. |
We also fixed up our rose garden. Here Rosemary is planting a new rose bush. Some of our Mida's Touch yellow roses died in the last year, and we replaced every dead rose with a new one. |
Crystal and Selina dug up the dead roses. |
Willaim from Marble Hill School helped cut down some old Christmas trees to create mulch to put under our evergreens |
Albert cleaned up the debris that had collected area in front of the garden, as our entry area was a dumping ground for snow plowed in the parking lot. |
