The Garden Celebrates it's first decade!
|
|
Just when we thought we had seen our best crew working in the garden, things only got better this year. Under the expert and thoughtful leadership of Paul Eng, the focus continued to be one of nurture as opposed to expansion. The garden continued to flourish thanks to temperate and wet weather. Without Paul and his classmate though, the garden would not have looked more stunning this spring. With his Wave Hill experience, Paul insured our many trees and plants were properly cared for. This was the year Crystal Mac and Celia Dubin put on something they had been talking about doing for years: setting up a Haunted Garden for Halloween. A spell was cast over the garden as unsuspecting visitors got a chance to see just how scary our garden could be! Celia and Crystal also helped to coordinate another Farm Stand, in which pesto was the fastest selling item. Debbie set up our fist bamboo sale, and that everyone was surprised that we sold out so quickly. Special credit this year also goes to Diego Morello, who took Master Composting classes at the New York Botanical Garden, and has established himself as the youngest Master Composter in the city. This also marks the last year Mr. Thoman serves as advisor as he will now be making his home at the High School for American Studies at Lehman College. He looks forward to continuing work at the garden, but is hopefuly that the garden will enter it's second decade with a new advisor that can continue to harness the awesome talent that continues to come out of Kennedy. |
